Details:
Though this CD is produced solely in Seattle, WA, Kalei still expresses, “Lets keep this in the hula style.” With this said, he takes you on a musical journey with various songs that have not been heard for decades. “It’s about bringing the music from yesterdays past to the forefront and keeping it alive.” “Like being at the pier near Aloha Tower of Honolulu Harbor when ships docked and music was alive,” says Kalei.
Kalei is also known for the 2002 Falsetto Singing Contest hit, `Alika. He says, he thanks Lordie and Alvina Kaulili, Puanani Howell, and Aunty Genoa for providing him with the necessary tools and pointers to perfect his falsetto and sing it with gusto.
His music style is energetic and alive, and his sweet falsetto voice will have you saying, “WOW!” But, like Dennis Pavao, Kalei also sings in his regular voice just as well as his smooth falsetto. To compliment his voice, he brings that unique strumming style. He says it stems from him living in: Ka `imu ki (known as town), and Ma`ili, Wai`anae, and Makaha (known as country). But others say, “Its from hearing your kupuna.”
Joining him on this CD are: Roddy Lopez Kaaiohelo on: bass, guitar and ukulele. Kory Tideman brings that touch of kiho`alu, and Jack Aldrich colors the music with the harmonics of his Hawaiian steel guitar.
So, sit back and allow Kalei to bring you back to the islands; no matter where you are living.
