Give yourself two months, write an album’s worth of songs, and then go record a rock record in one week. That was the challenge given to Philip for his solo release, "The Ceiling." What developed was an honest, straightforward batch of songs that question faith, ask forgiveness, and shout for love. "I wanted to change everything" says the native of North Carolina. "I felt I had something to say that needed to be delivered differently. I''ve always written softer music, but there was another sound in me. I wanted to make a rock record without taking myself too seriously. You have to have fun with it, and we did."
There’s a rawness to this record that reveals an artist evolving and discovering a new voice, a new sound and a new direction. What remains is a songwriter that believes with all his heart in what he is singing. When Hamrick tells us that "love is the only thing that matters now," you start to agree that it really is.
