Canadian indie rock singer/songwriter Dan Kosub has distinguished himself by combining extraordinary vocals with evocative melodies that instantly catch you. Having recently released his sophomore record Jacob''s Island, Kosub is now embarking on some extensive national touring that will carry him through the rest of the year.
Growing up in Victoria British Columbia, Kosub has called Toronto home for nearly five years. “My roots are in BC, so I play a lot back there,” he claims. “It feels a bit like dual-citizenship.” Kosub penned Jacob''s Island in the midst of heavily touring his first record Reservoir. His touring has created a great stir of anticipation for its release. This record raised the bar in every sense,” says Kosub. “It carries more conviction throughout; I''ve forged a direction.” The EP kicks off with the tuneful indie-pop groove of “Til I’m There,” a lover''s lament of a relationship dogged by distance. Autobiographical? No comment.
Jacob’s Island also features Fifteen Summers, a touching homage to Kosub’s mother, who succumbed to cancer eleven years ago. "I didn''t think I''d get this personal on the second record out," admits Kosub, who wrote the ballad within days of the 10 year anniversary of her death. “I thought perhaps this subject would come out down the road.” The song features stunning string orchestrations by Vancouver arranger Bill Runge.
As Kosub spends the better part of the next year on tour, he has a throng of exciting creative endeavours to unveil. Stay tuned to this striking talent.
