In an industry that has evolved so drastically over the years. In an industry that has been overridden by sampled beats and pointless beefs. Where artists are forgetting the art of being lyrical to become one hit miracles. Where talent no longer gets you in the door but a reputation far precedes me. Where people judge the artist we are before they ever see me. Where talent and skills are no longer born but artist are taught to be the best. Where every artist must deal with their own issues but they must all deal with one major issue and that issue is “Stress”.
Born Terrance Rashaun Williams to Diane Williams on April 21, 1983 in Long Island, NY and has been repping Strong Island ever since he can remember. Stress was engulfed in music at a young age between his uncles, the renowned Mob Terror aka Live Poets and listening to old school rap, Jazz, and R & B with his mother. But he did not only grow up listening to music but became a student of creating it himself. His uncles taught him that there was more involved in perfecting a formless art then the finished product that everyone is lead to believe. So Stress began mixing his own melodies with an antique Yamaha keyboard, a saxophone, and a trumpet proving that this was not just a phase but a potential way of life. After noticing his desire, his family invested in his first mixing board and mics. Over the next several years, Stress consistently created hot tracks for many local artists throughout Strong Island until word of mouth leaked his talent like wild fire throughout the five Boroughs.
Stress has also experienced the work involved with touring, following his uncles behind the scenes learning first hand what it takes to be a successful artist and performer. The small taste of the lime light was all it took to lure him deeper into the inner workings of the music industry evolving quickly into what can be mistaken as a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde syndrome, transforming spontaneously from hardcore, to a conscious lyricist, ending with club bangers that pull ladies and fellas out of their seats with melodic flows and well designed and placed baselines that go down easy with those blessed to hear a masterpiece of such hypnotic proportions.
Over the past seven years, Stress has stepped out of seclusion from his laboratory to grace the stage, opening for Joe Budden, featured on a Tapemasters Inc. Mixtape hosted by. SHEEK LOUCH from D-Block in 2006, Nominated for MOST ORIGINAL SOLO ARTIST of da year at da 4th Annual UnderGround Music Awards in https://www.tradebit.comdlining at the legendary Howard University, a charitable event in the nation’s capital, periodically going back to his roots ripping stages in the underground scene at the Remote Lounge, Platinum, Karma,Cada Vez Club, Occasions, performed at Ft. Belvoir a charity show for Breast Cancer Awareness, Goosebumps in Atlanta, and as a battle MC in Virginia at the Spotlight.
But you have to question every new talent in an industry of filled niches and so many gimmicks, a new meaning has to be given to the definition of a diamond in the rough. What attributes does an artist possess that pulls them ahead of the crowd? One determining factor that can always be agreed upon is versatility with a unique blend of what has been done with what has not. Stress is part of a new breed of artist that creates an entire product from an empty studio, a mic, a pen and paper from producing, mixing, recording, and writing his entire album. It all comes back to taking the risk to do the unthinkable and being exposed to a variety of different styles combined with a fire to succeed until you’re not just an up and comer but an overachiever. A new age of artist that gives new meaning to the man behind the name because until he is labeled an integral part of music he will always be “Stress.”
