"Princess Of Hip Hop"
Asia Lynn Jackson p/k/a SmerphAsia was born in Orange County, California on August 15, 1991. At the tender age of 6, young Smerphette showed the innate ability of rhythmic lyrical expression, whether it was mimicking classic hip hop records, or creating new wordplay of her own, her pinpoint delivery, coupled with her charismatic style, was evident from the very beginning.
Her introduction to the Hip Hop industry came as a member of a local R&B/Hip-Hop quartet out of Orange County called "Seven 1 Fo" (phonetically named after the Orange County area code). The four-girl group (3 singers) and one rapper (Smerphette), garnered local attention but had short-lived chemistry as a unit. As the group disbanded, one thing was clear from all who saw the group perform: the pint size female MC who rhymed eight bars on almost every song was a "star in the making."
In 2003, Smerphette embarked on the journey as a solo artist and it was clear she was more than ready. She immediately began working on songs with famed Death Row producer Darren Vegas, who after seeing her perform at a local talent show, found himself utterly impressed with Smerphette''s lyrical skills and stage presence. As a result of that encounter, he contributed six incredible songs on her debut album. To quote Vegas, "her potential is unlimited." Darren should know, after all, he has produced multi-platinum hits for Tupac, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Tha Dogg Pound and several other notable artists.
Due to her exceptional work ethic, SmerphAsia has earned a modest fan base through the live show format. She has performed several shows throughout the Orange County area, including the OC''s famed "The Block of Orange". In addition, "The Princess of Hip Hop" has performed for, and been mentored by, Debbie Allen, Cassandra Mills (former President of Giant Records), and multi-platinum and Grammy award winning producer David Foster.
SmerphAsia has been artistically influenced by Salt-N- Pepa, Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte and Yo Yo- quite a selection! Based on her thorough knowledge of hip hop''s past and her obvious status as torch bearer for hip hop''s future, the career road ahead for this 14-year-old, half African-American and half Mexican female MC, is bright to say the least. Consider yourself warned!
