Details:
My musical background is a combination of folk, world music and Latin jazz along with classical guitar. Combined with my passion for languages, the stage was set for the inspiration for this CD. From the first time I visited Curaçao, I was struck by the musical beauty of Papiamentu, the Afro-Portuguese creole language spoken there. The songs that follow tell how I fell in love with Curaçao and its sweet language. The rhythms and tonality of the language are reflected in the music produced locally as well as the many other musical traditions that are at home on the island. Or perhaps it is the other way around. One thing’s for sure; there has been a musical soundtrack to all of my adventures there and it has followed me around through other parts of my life. This CD is a tribute to Papiamentu and an expression of love and admiration for its difficult journey to achieve respect and recognition as the beautiful expression of a people’s experience. Includes one song in English and one in Portuguese.
