Details:
A take on slick pop/funk/soul records from the 1970s. All the songs here were recorded on a giant tape recorder from c.1970 with everyone in the same room, in no more than three takes, with very few overdubs. Each musician added his own touches, phrases, and unique sensibilities to these original compositions.
I Been Up - A stone cold seventies soul groove with pumping bass, honking electric piano, and a guitar solo that sounds like George Harrison''s groovier twin brother. You can just picture the 400 pound backup singers on this one.
See No Evil - Mixing a touch of jam band playfulness with Latin-tinged other-worldliness, this is a truly original piece with a ripping breakdown that will bring to mind Rage Against the Machine on acid.
1982 - Right out of the tradition of Elvis Costello, this bittersweet ballad juxtaposes jaded lyricism with touching and carefully restrained ensemble playing that recalls the terrific finesse of The Band.
