Sown Among Thorns was formed in October 2006 by Michael Lapchon (lyrics, vocals, production & engineering) and Nicholas Fratelli (music composer, vocals & keyboard). We met when Nick came to my church to assume the role of pianist, while I was in charge of running the sound board. We wrote about a dozen songs by the end of the year, ten of which appeared on our first album, the all spiritual WHO''S IN CONTROL, which was released in time for Father''s Day, in June 2007. We made a conscious effort not to follow the typical Contemporary Christian pattern, but instead utilized pop, rock, soul and social commentary, based on the many musical influences we have assimilated. We wrote a few more songs together, and performed a few live shows. We discussed a different direction for the next album, a mix of secular as well as spiritual, before Nick left to go solo in October 2007. Rather than throw in the towel, I decided to continue on my own, with the path we had discussed. I pulled out some earlier lyrics that Nick hadn''t worked with yet, and composed music for them. I pulled a few that we had done together, but hadn''t recorded, and one from WHO''S IN CONTROL that I wanted to re-do. Finding the common thread of life''s experiences amongst most of the tracks, I decided to call it JOURNEY OF A LIFE, which was released in March 2009.
