Freak of the day: Back in the year 2000, musician/ singer/ songwriter Thad Ward moved from his home state of Indiana to New Jersey. Thad immediately set his sights on finding the best musicians the East coast had to offer. In early 2000, he auditioned for a cover band and met bass player/songwriter Mike Thomas. The two quickly formed a friendship and attitude about putting together a band that could take on the world.
They auditioned many guitarists and after several failures they came across Pennsylvania native Frank Wurst. A trio was formed; all that was left to find was a drummer. The band started to audition drummers in Mike''s basement. The basement became the spawning ground for writing many of the Freaks early songs. There were so many different influences in the band it was hard to say what bands rounded out their early original sound. The 80''s metal scene was definitely an influence in their first five original tunes.
In 2001, The Freaks entered the studio to put together a 5 song EP that included Inside out, Freak of the Day, Lay Your Body Down, and two other songs that would never see the album release. The new material had more attitude and darker lyrics. FOTD entered the studio in 2002 at the Vibe Room in Old Bridge, NJ and started to record their new EP. Songs on the EP included Misery, Slave and The Fallen. In 2003, the band would meet studio owner/producer Jimmy Wilgus at The Den Recording studio and finish the album. With a new 6 song EP under their belt, the band continued to play gigs all over the tri-state area. By the end of 2003 drummer Mike Bellai would be replaced by Jimmy Wilgus.
2003 saw the band publishing 4 songs off the EP with Heavyhitters Music and before long started hearing their own tunes on TV shows as "The Young and Restless" and "One Life to Live". The Freaks decided it was time to enter the studio again and make the EP into a full-length album. The new songs being written for the new album took the band to new heights and also became the birthplace for the character SINISTER. The Freaks released the new album SINISTER in 2004, and followed it up with their own produced music video for the song FROSTBITE, which featured PLAYBOY model and actress Jennifer Pedersen. The Freaks continued to play out live all over New York and New Jersey to great reviews. In 2005 Freak of the Day were asked to write a song for the TV show "The Brotherhood" which aired on Showtime. The Song SOMEDAY was aired on Episode #6 in late 2005.
By early 2006, Jimmy Wilgus announced he would be leaving the band. And, by years end, most band members had moved on to other projects and started families, it wasn’t until late 2007 when Mike came across the opportunity to get the band back together. Bo-Dog''s Battle of the Bands had a top prize a recording contract. Freak Of The Day came in 2nd in the contest. The Freaks were back together and ready to take on the world. By LATE 2007 Thad would start writing the screen play and album version of the story FIREWATER. 2008 sees the band writing and recording material for what will become their biggest feat to date: a concept album titled FIREWATER. In early 2011 Thad and Mike would assemble FOTD with new members Anthony Gemignani, Kamran Vaziri, and Scott McNamara. The band hit the road in support of FIREWATER, the album was released April 15, 2011. Come check out FIREWATER!
