“Devil’s Grip” was recorded at Studio House in Long Island, NY, with producer Sean Brierty. “Devil’s Grip” is a hard-hitting rock album infused with the blues. It’s title track, “The Devil’s Grip”, features pulsating, stomping drums and a driving guitar riff. The melody rings throughout the song, summoned by ripping slide guitar. Featured track “Crooked Teeth”, a live show favorite, carries soft, arpeggiated chords and sincere vocals through the verse until the song builds into an instrumental fury that is both chaotic and direct in its drive and momentum. The song reveals lead guitarist Dan''s impressive ability to play guitar and organ simultaneously, elevating the sound to new heights. Dan, also lead singer for Penrose and lyricist on the track, says that he wrote it “about how attractive evil can be sometimes… Maybe what we conceive to be evil isn’t so evil after all.” The album ends with an epic 10-minute suite, Suite for Stack, which gives us a new take on an old story of the most famous bar fight in history. It’s ambitious as it is derivative, as its three movements are distinct but cohesive. Expect more stomping, organs and guitar, and a powerful blues influence.
