Critically acclaimed pianist Mei-Ting Sun began his life on the concert stage at the prestigious Spring of Shanghai Festival in 1986 at the age of five. Since then he has performed in many of the world’s greatest concert halls and performing arts centers, such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Orchestra Hall in Minnesota, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Tonhalle in Zurich, Filharmonia Narodowa in Warsaw, and Obecni Dum in Prague. His career has led him to performances in 19 countries through five continents.

Most recently Mr. Sun has made concert tours in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Spain, the U.S., China, and Poland. He has participated in numerous festivals, including the Taubman Festival, the Newport Festival, the Prague Spring festival, Festival de Radio France et Montpellier, the Spring Festival in Shanghai, and Festival International de Piano de la Roque d’Anthéron. He has collaborated with many major orchestras, including the Winnipeg Symphony, the Richmond Symphony, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, the Prague Philharmonia, the Shanghai Symphony, Orquesta Nacional de España, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Macao Orchestra. A tour through South America with the Warsaw Philharmonic in 2007 garnered glowing reviews. He has been repeatedly invited by the National Chopin Foundation in the U.S. and the National Society of Chopin in Poland to present concerts and recitals on Chopin and other composers. In 2008 Mr. Sun was invited to perform for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland, in honor of an award for vice president Al Gore.

Mr. Sun can also be heard on numerous radio and TV shows such as the “Young Artist Showcase” on WQXR Classical Radio, “Performance Today” on NPR, and “South Florida Today” on NBC-6. His newest CD offerings, “Mannes 2005: Themes” and “Mannes 2006: Variations”, are available around the world and online at major retailers such as iTunes and https://www.tradebit.com. In 2010, the bicentenary of Chopin’s birth, Mr. Sun toured around the globe performing the complete works of Chopin for solo piano published during his lifetime. Upcoming appearances include recitals in the U.S., Switzerland, Japan, concert tours in China and Poland, and two complete 32 Sonatas of Beethoven series in New York and Shanghai.

Mr. Sun has won numerous prestigious awards, including unanimous first prizes in the 7th National Chopin Piano Competition in 2005 (U.S.A.) and the first Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition in 2002, along with the prizes for the best performance of a Concerto and Polonaise in the National Chopin, and the best performance of a Schubert Sonata in the Minnesota. He is also the first prize laureate of the 2002 Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Piano Competition and the 2006 Morocco International Piano Competition. Throughout his concertizing career, Mr. Sun has received many favorable reviews from major newspapers such as the New York Times (“Stunningly fluid”), the Boston Globe (“A miracle of lightness, speed, and precision of articulation and pianistic shimmer”), and the Minnesota Star-Tribune (“Daredevil”). At the tender age of 15 he was already named one of the Musicians of the Year 1996 by the Village Voice for his performance of the complete Op. 25 Etudes by Chopin.

Mr. Sun is also highly involved in education and outreach of classical music. He regularly gives masterclasses and lectures at major universities around the world, and is currently working on his book about the Op. 10 Etudes of Chopin.

A native of Shanghai, Mr. Sun arrived in New York at the age of 9 and entered the Professional Children’s School and Mannes College of Music, where he studied Ear Training with Marie Powers, Theory with Robert Cuckson, and Piano with Edward Aldwell. He continued his education at Mannes, receiving both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. In May of 2006, he received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School, under the tutelage of Robert McDonald.
