“Heartbreak Trip Hop”
If the sounds of Portishead, Massive Attack, Garbage and Sneaker Pimps interest you, you will probably enjoy the music of UNDADOGG. A sexy female fronted, five piece Toronto band, incorporating downtempo trip hop, indie alternative rock, dark atmospherics, hints of drum and bass and break beats, moody melodies, heartbreaking lyrics and sultry female vocals, UNDADOGG‘s sound is familiar, but refreshingly unique and difficult to forget. Formed in 1998, UNDADOGG is singer/lyricist Andrea Lucarelli, twin brothers Ruben-guitar, and Remi Miguez-drums, and keyboardist Christian Kada who have all been playing together since high school, and newest member Mitch Peake on bass.
UNDADOGG gig regularly, in and around Toronto, Montreal and surrounding cities. The bands current performance schedule is booked solid, with up to 3 shows per week. UNDADOGG’s live performance is definitely their strength, and always satisfies their ever-growing fan base. Appealing to an odd mismatch of trip hop fans, hip hoppers, Goths, indie rockers and even punks, UNDADOGG create a mood that sets them apart from the masses. Music lovers and critics are easily won over after seeing UNDADOGG perform: “I almost peed my pants when I heard a great musicians and a great singer in the same band!” Vanessa Bruno, Chart Attack CMW Review, “They can pull off sexiness without being raunchy. They’re just plain cool.”- Manuela Spizziri, Chart Attack CMW, “sexy enough to seemingly be the audio equivalent of thigh high stockings.”-J-Sin, Smother Magazine
The band can also accommodate to smaller, more intimate venues by playing stripped down and acoustic, incorporating upright bass, djembe, acoustic guitar, accordion and xylophone.
UNDADOGG recently played in front of a crowd of 500+ as part of Toronto Alternative Fashion Week. The band has also been featured live to air on CKLN 88.1FM radio, performing a live acoustic set and interview as part of the Dub and Beyond program. UNDADOGG have released 2 independent discs to date, “Ano De Dolor” (1999) and “Jinx” (2006). Both releases sold very well and continue to receive great support from college and Internet radio. UNDADOGG plan to hit the studio to record their new material as soon as possible, continue gigging excessively in Canada, and hope to hit the US and European markets very soon.
Over the years UNDADOGG have gained respect, credibility and established themselves as one of the few bands in Toronto doing something different. Playing the live circuit in a sea of punk, metal and rock, UNDADOGG’s music can’t help but stand out and get noticed. Known for their captivating style, stage presence and alluring live shows; this band always leaves you wanting more…
