Although Van''s musical tastes and inclinations have evolved, his songwriting spirit remains the same. Wanting to write songs that are unadulterated and organic, completely honest and unapologetic, Van created his little five-song acoustic opus, "Streets of Solitude" in a couple of months in the winter of 2004.
On his album philosophy/concept:
"Nowadays there is the tendency to focus on making music too perfect that it takes away from the believability of the song and its ability to connect with listeners. I want to create something that people can feel is simply real. I think what people want is honest expression, not the flawless record. If the essence is pure, all else is forgivable. Because to err is to be human. And to be human is to be a beautiful broken creature. And that''s what I hope my music communicates to people."
