When a group of musicians that have done nothing but practice their craft day after day, hour after hour, sacrificing everything to be the best, get together... it''s something magical.
This is not one of those times.
Big Baby Satan was originally formed to be a studio project for guitarist Larry Forman and drummer Mike Hymson. The two had put out numerous ads searching for the right people, but no one seemed to want to jam with them. Everyone wanted to do a "rap metal" project, but no one just wanted to lay down some heavy grooves. One night at rehearsal, Mike mentioned that one of his friends'' bands had just broken up and that they, BBS (Big Baby Satan), should see if the singer was interested in jamming. In stepped Kerry Merkle, to take on the role of singer/screamer/lyricist. After the completion of their debut CD, they recruited the bass styling of Ivan Gonsolez, an old band mate of Kerry''s, and BBS was ready to rumble!
When discussing the Heavy Sounds of Big Baby Satan, bands such as Life of Agony, Audioslave, Crowbar, and Pantera must be mentioned in the very same sentence. The vocals tend to bring to mind a cross of Henry Rollins, Chris Cornell, and Keith Caputo. So as you see, BBS have taken the best of many worlds and blended them in their unique way to come up with a sound unlike any other...
Kerry, the debonair little vocalist and lyricist, has been in a few successful projects to date and is no stranger to the NY Metal scene. He has been a member such local favorites as Redshift with Ivan, and Pervert. Larry, the husky goateed guitarist, and Mike, the shiny scalped drummer, are no strangers to the scene either. Both have been bouncing around the Long Island music scene for years, and have been part of some fairly successful projects as well. Larry is formerly a member of Mr. Murray and WeHateJulia, and Mike is formerly a member of Sorrow and Dystopia One. "Together we bring the experience of a few old guys and combine it with the new sound and attitude of today''s heavy bands" declares Mike.
They recorded their self-titled debut CD with local engineer Andy Marchione and Headphone Productions. "Many hours of pain, sweat, and pizza went into this recording, and I am just glad they are finally done!!" states Andy. "Well, except for the pizza part" he mumbled.
