ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Power Pop
Details:
Boho Zen''s fourth independent release, "Release Me" (pun fully intended), represents their latest foray into the world of Power Pop, delivering six tunes ranging from chugging, guitar-based numbers ((Drink Her) Pretty, My Neighbor''s Mother) to lighter, more vocally-based tunes (Wouldn''t It Be?, Paper Houses).
The band is comprised of Howard Fencl (guitars and vocals) and Bob Walker (drums and vocals), who''ve made music together for decades. "Release Me" has already received accolades from both Cleveland Magazine and Scene Magazine. Prior Boho Zen discs got positive reviews from Big Takeover and Free Times magazines and led to a profile of Bob in Modern Drummer.
In the mold of XTC and Cheap Trick, to whom Boho Zen''s music''s been frequently compared, "Release Me" charges full steam ahead with a unique combination of musical aggression and sonic nuance.
The pieces were recorded by Don Depew of 609 Studios (of Guided By Voices and Cobra Verde fame) and mastered by Jim DeMain (among others, John Hiatt and Elton John). "Release Me," indeed.
