So this is me, Bow, and first off I have to say that I really do appreciate that you choose to listen to my songs and that you are taking the time to read this.
So me... I was born in East London, England, in August 1989, and spent the first few years there, then a lot of time travelling with my parents and little brother... not posh or fancy travel, but camping and making like nomads... years of it, with no home at all, and often no money, and it would seem, no map... I'm not sure, but maybe we were on the run!
Mine was no ordinary childhood, but it was excellent. Always a new place to see, a new sound to hear, and new people to blend with... I like that, blending is good. Nobody was telling me to be quiet or fit in, or shut up, or accept anything that wasn't right or good or balanced... I was always encouraged to change things, to resist, to blend but never to lose myself, to blend but never to become diluted. I also always burned, lukewarm wasn't really my temperature... sometimes we arrived in a place soft as a summer breeze... sometimes we invaded like a hurricane! Usually we stayed on the poor side of town and we met with generosity and love and the noise and chaos of life... I was always assured that being who I was, whoever I was, was cool...
And I'm still young and I know I'm young, I'm not making out to be so wise and worldly. I recorded this album as I turned 15, I know I have innocence but I also have experience, and I don't think experience or wisdom are just the preserves of the aged... children have it too... it's in the belly, in the cells, in the heart! And I'm still learning of course, and still travelling in one way or another, and to one place or another. If you asked me who my music influences were, I'd have to pass... music gets me really deep, and I can't say any one person or sound or band has sunk in more than any other. I'm a singer and a songwriter, and I'll sing what I like, and I hope you like to hear it. But if you really pushed me... I like the songs of Springsteen and Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix and Elton John and John Lennon and Nina Simone and Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Bob Marley. I like Oasis and their melody of rebellion, and some old voodoo guy who shook a mojo bag at me when I was bumming through Paris aged about 2... He had a good, mad smile! He spoke to me for ages, but I don't know what he said... And like I said before, I can't say one or another... And I love the poetry of William Blake and the painful beauty and grace of John Steinbecks people....
To make this cd I roped in every musician I met who couldn't outrun me, and I made promises to some that were probably illegal in any civilized country, but I got the cd made, and I hope you love it like I do...
I wrote all the songs on this album, except the last one, and they all mean something special to me. There are no throw away lines, and I hope that shows through... I lost some fine and much loved people, and I lost places, and I lost a lot of really good things. There was pain and tragedy and death and real deep and salty tears... and I found fine people too, other places and other good things... and life and laughter and love... such is the lot of the traveller, and the child...and I'm both, and I'm not apologizing! I think we are all of us those things, and we are all raw and beautiful and filled with fire and love and passion... sometimes we just need to remember it... we are all youths, all new, and all part of it... whatever it is, so however many years we've lived, however many aches we have, however ground down we sometimes feel, we are all lost children and all heading home... I just hope we enjoy the journey because the journey might be the best bit!!!! I am truly honoured and humbled that you might buy my cd, and that in some way we are sharing the trip... see you there, somewhere...
