The songs are about life's varying moods -- the cycles of love, loss and loneliness, joy before the fall and utter despair. For years I've tried to capture at least the smallest essence of the flamenco I first heard as a silent teenager suffering the boredom of a quietly undermining upbringing. Flamenco was exciting and moving, and whirled me to mental spaces I had never seen, and could never understand: that's what made it exciting.

The Songs: Arrival is about the emerging self, seeking identity and purpose. Survival teases at the complexity of life, a dance of many moods. Livebreathe concerns the hide and seek of my children at play. Dead Man Walking relates a tale of trapped relationships. Free is a song of release and longing.

The four instrumentals were written as freeform pieces which can be altered with each performance. The recording process was a snapshot of one version of each of these pieces. The song, Free was written, with a number of other pieces, for the voice of Caroline De Batselier: we performed as Starbank.

Thanks: particular thanks to Jason who took my Cubase draft files and turned them into something magical. Thanks also to Frances, Doug and Elise for putting up my obsession with guitars.

Dedication: I'd like to dedicate this short album to my friends Warren and Sharon who suffered a loss more than anyone should have to bear.

Other Stuff:
The guitar is a simple, flame-red flamenco instrument from Almeria in Jerez
Percussion and keyboards were played and programmed through Cubase.
Recorded at The Music Lounge at Westbourne Studios by Jason Emberton. Great to have someone working alongside who can mix acoustic with digital so seamlessly. Jason is a drummer and multi instrumentalist but fundamentally a terrific musician and has toured with an eclectic mix of bands.

Will you
Remember me?
When Iâm gone,
From Your arms?

Can you,
Keep holding on?
âtil I return,
For you?

You might forget, all that youâve said
You might forget how you feel
You might forget that your head
Nearly exploded, the deal
Was to live, not to cry.

Will you,
Sink, sink back again?
Under the Waves
Of your tears?

Can you
Open Your mind,
Let the fear,
Flutter free.

You might forget, all that youâve said
You might forget how you feel
You might forget that your head
Nearly exploded, the deal
Was to live, not to cry.
