Laura's musical education began in JJ's Blues Club where she had the good fortune to learn from many great blues artists and listen to the legends perform on a small stage for an intimate crowd. It was during this time that she joined the Tobias Henderson Project which opened for John Lee Hooker and an all woman showcase including Etta James. While singing in the blues club at night Laura worked towards a degree in Literature at San Jose State University, gaining strength as a songwriter. After several years on the blues scene Laura joined an original music alternative rock group Soul Burning Flashes with whom she released her first single "I Carry St. Jude" which earned airplay on college radio in the San Francisco area. After Soul Burning Flashes, Laura joined another original group, Boogyman who played 70's style west coast funk in large clubs around San Francisco.
