The plan of the Bruce Partington submarine, one of government’s tightly guarded secrets, a vital part of its naval warfare, was discovered in the dead body of Arthur Cadogan West, he was found lifeless outside Aldgate Station on the Underground system in London, seven technical papers in his possessions, three more important papers were missing. Cadogan West was one of the three keepers of the papers; the other two were Sir James Walter, official guardian of the plan, and Mr. Sidney Johnson, senior clerk draughtsman and senior officer of West. The government was deeply troubled by the incident, Mycroft Holmes asked his brother; Sherlock Holmes to investigates deeper on the case and see if West acted alone. Holmes surveyed spies and agent and learned Hugo Oberstein involvement in the crime and West innocence. The traitor was Colonel Valentine Walter, brother of Sir James Walter, he sold the papers to Oberstein.
