Creating a unique sound and feel in today’s music world is difficult, yet DelRain has gloriously achieved it. Their original arrangements are an eclectic blend of rock, country, folk and bluegrass. The band comes to audiences ready to take them on a journey. Songs with soulful, yet straightforward lyrics born of their authors’ life stories, stir emotions. Sweet vocal and instrumental harmonies dance with acoustic strings to wash over listeners. Upbeat rhythms express the attitudes of the composers. The music is wonderfully diverse and speaks to people of all ages and lifestyles.
DelRain is a trio of singer/songwriters. More specifically; Paula Cadden-Glodzik on acoustic guitar and mandolin, Mark Sillaman on acoustic guitar, mandolin and harmonica, and Michelle Sillaman on violin and mandolin.
Growing up in the coal-cracking region of NE Pennsylvania in a large, very musical, Irish family has given Paula a lot of history to draw from. Still in high school, she and her sister performed their own original music, grabbing the attention of a national recording act that would later book them to open their local shows. Paula started a family, and raised four children. Her gift for music and songwriting never waned. Now there is a beautiful, calm, mature and introspective aspect to her craft that only comes from years of honing skills.
Like Paula, Mark also hales from a large, musical family. His father expected all members of their clan to participate in his front porch “picking sessions”. Mark owned his first acoustic guitar by age seven and was fronting a rock band in high school. Restless, he left Lancaster PA and headed west across the country. Performing as a solo act as he traveled, he eventually settled in Arizona. Fronting a heavy metal/ grunge band, he was their primary songwriter while they toured throughout the West. Looking back, Mark realized he had jammed with all types of musicians in hundreds of venues; it was time to refine his work. Upon his return to PA in 1994, he put his focus on his acoustic roots and his writing. The result of his effort is an impressive book of multi colored songs and a musical prowess that captures one’s attention.
Michelle grew up in rural New Jersey studying classical violin and cello. She aspired to be a singer even at a young age, telling a third grade friend to walk with her up the street singing so she could be discovered. Starting in her teenage years, she found interest in writing poetry and short stories, but not so much classical music. In 1995, she and Mark crossed paths and quickly became a team. Inspired and encouraged by Mark and his father, she timidly picked up the mandolin and then the violin, even singing under the right conditions. Thrilled with her new pursuit, she tried her hand at song writing, pulling from her years of writing experience. Her enthusiasm and persistence has allowed her talent to surface and be felt.
DelRain is based in North Eastern Pennsylvania. Resorts, nightspots, restaurants and taverns are taking advantage of the band’s tremendous appeal, when they are not performing at festivals and private gatherings. Currently DelRain is promoting the release of This House is not My Home, their new CD. Together the trio has a tight bond that can be heard in their voices and their instruments, transcending individuals to create a magnificent whole.
