Tell us about the CD.
It’s entitled “Sophistication”. It’s an impressive blend of JD’s lyrics with me, Clayton Morrow and Johnny Gordon’s musical arrangements. As you listen to each track you will be able to hear my blend of late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s R&B, Clayton’s Neo-Soul.
Who came up with the name and Why “Sophistication”?
James named the CD. It was the vibe he got while the music was coming together. When I think of sophistication I think of something classic, mature, tasteful and that aptly describes JD and The JD Experience. JD’s vocal and lyrical style is pure classic soul. The music is a mature blend of funk, smooth jazz and soul rarely heard much these days. Together they create a tasteful blend that appeals to people of all backgrounds, young and old.
Who worked on “Sophistication” with you?
All the lyrics were written and arranged by JD (James Daniel). All You Need, Fenin, You Move Me, Night Dreams music was written and arranged by me (Chris Williams). Johnny Gordon come up with a fresh new arrangement of I Love You and wrote the change for Do with you. What is “The J.D. Experience”?
What comes to mind when you hear JD perform? Music sung the way you remember it, smooth, jazzy and sophisticated. Now we call it old-school but back then it was just good music. JD’s lyrical style and rich vocal tones bring back those memories of an era when music felt good and male vocalists ruled the airwaves.
JD comes from a musical family and has been singing as long as he can remember. It was always a part of him and something he loves to do. In the early 1990s his professional career began to take shape. He sang at various music venues around the D.C. area like Mr. Henry’s, Martin’s Crosswinds and Howard University’s Blackburn Center, to name a few. Like many others before him, JD took up the challenge of performing at the Apollo Theater and learned much from the experience to further shape his career.
All of this has lead up to what is now known as “The JD Experience”. What is the JD Experience? It’s that special feeling you get when you hear JD perform live. JD has the rare ability to make you feel something inside yourself. He makes you remember what good music sounded like, what male R&B vocalist were known for.
