NEW AGE: Healing, EASY LISTENING: Mood Music
“There has always been a piano in my life. From as far back as I can remember it has always been there, silently waiting for me to touch its keys and let it speak.
After many years of studying music and uncovering the secrets of technique I have found that it all comes down to one thing.
Touch.” (From the liner notes of ‘Healing Touch’)
Martin Brookes has been playing piano professionally for thirty years, performing in England and the United States. In 1997 he began to explore ‘stream-of-conciousness’ or ‘free’ improvisation.
“I had reached a low point in my life and the only way I could express myself was through the piano. Composing was too slow, and improvising over a set of changes was too limiting, so I just allowed my hands and fingers to do as they wished. When I had finished playing I had no recollection of what I had played, but I felt a warm, peaceful, healing presence within myself. Since then I have continued to allow this flow of healing energy to pass through me and manifest itself in music.
The experience of this process is extremely personal and rewarding, indeed many improvisations are never recorded, being performed exclusively for myself as a way of connecting with what some might call God, others, the energy of Love."
‘Healing Touch’, a collection of eight of Martins improvisations, speaks to the heart and soul. Touching, gentle, understanding, its ‘voice’ seems to know just what to ‘say’.
“Some of these pieces have been around a while, but even I never grow tired of listening to them. The ‘voice’ within them is always fresh and present. Whenever my energy is low or I’m just having ‘one of those days’ this CD never fails to calm me and make life seem worth living again.”
If your soul is in need of a gentle, healing touch, then this CD is for you.
