“The only thing we take seriously is our music.” says Justin (Bass), and wearing a tin-foil costume for a Halloween gig.
Doug (guitars) and Lionel (drums) both agree, “Yea, we didn’t push ourselves through hell at music college so we could get up in front of a bunch of mindless teenyboppers and play 3 chords in 4/4 time every gig. I want to challenge myself as a musician every time I play. But I also want to keep it light and have fun.”
“Or sing song after song about relationships.” adds Russ (vocals), “I mean, come on, I want to sing my heart out, not sell my soul.”
RedSide’s music is described as “Hard rock for people with brains.”
RedSide has played together since 1989 when they met a college. “The one thing we all had in common is that we each have a strong passion for playing our instruments well. We actually practice, which is not something I can say about all the musicians I’ve met and played with.”
“And we all love Rush. They just rock!”
“The Sistine Chapel wasn’t created by some shmuck tossing a bunch of paint at a ceiling and calling it a masterpiece.” Justin sums up, “Our music is a real work of art. But it’s not just that, we really rock! I put everything in to it. Just listen to Russ sing ‘When’s Breakfast?’ - he puts it all out there.”
“How about Doug’s extended guitar solo on Early to Dawn?” asks Russ, “I’m spellbound every time I listen to it. I love just sitting back and watching these guys play together in the instrumental sections, or in our private jam sessions, there is a synergy between the three of them that is just remarkable. I’m glad to be a part of it.”
