In the late 13th century, the Persian mystic poet Mevlana Jala ad-Din Rumi was walking through the vineyards of Konya (now in Turkey) with his favorite student, Husam Chelebi, "If you were to write a book," Chelebi said to Rumi, "it would become the companion of many troubadours. They would fill their hearts from your work and compose music to accompany it." More than 700 years later, in the early spring of 2005 and 2006, in Austin, Texas, musicians, dancers, and other artists from Iran, the United States, West Africa, Europe, India, Syria, Korea, and Latin America came together to create concerts for Global Harmony, inspired by the poetry of Rumi.
