Busted Peach is an acoustic duo comprised of Jonah Geil-Neufeld (on acoustic guitar and vocals) and Harley Meyer (on conga, doumbek, cajón, and various percussion). Their music has the flow and emotion of most singer-songwriter outfits, accompanied by percussive harmonies from a variety of cultures. Their debut album, Brown Paper Bag, was released on May 18, 2007. The albumâs songs are influenced by Scottish and Irish music, Paul Simonâs South African sound, Dispatchâs syncopated rhythms, and Ani DiFrancoâs rhythmic lyrics.
Jonah Geil-Neufeld (18) is a multi-faceted musician. He is a drummer, songwriter, singer, guitar player, and trombone player. As well as songwriting, singing, and playing guitar with Busted Peach, he also currently plays drums and sings in an alternative rock band called The Audians, and a traditional Cajun band called The Cajun Vagabonds. He also plays trombone with the Advanced Trombone Choir at the Merit School of Music, where he currently studies with renowned trombonist Timothy Riordan. Jonah also plays trombone in the Whitney Young High School advanced band, where he is currently a senior. He began playing guitar and writing songs at 10 and made his first professional recording when he was 11. Jonah has completed 9 studio albums to date with various bands. The most notable is the The Audians' EP, which was recorded at Engine Studios and produced by Brian Deck (Red Red Meat, Califone, Iron and Wine, Josh Ritter). He has also recorded 4 albums at Delmark Studios, a Chicago studio famous for it's Blues and Jazz records and home of Delmark Records. He has played at numerous famous Chicago venues including Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, The Metro, The Hideout, The Beat Kitchen, and Subterranean.
Harley Meyer (18) plays all things percussion. She has studied drum set, congas, doumbek, cajón, and djembe to name a few. She currently plays with the Merit Honors Jazz Ensemble, in the prestigious Merit Symphony Orchestra, and in Merit's Latin Jazz Ensemble. She also studies with the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute through Chicago's Gallery 37 program. Harley has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival and the Savannah Jazz Festival. She has had the great opportunity to play with several Jazz greats, including Lee Konitz and legend Herbie Hancock. She has studied with avant-garde percussionist Michael Zerang, and jazz drummers Timothy Daisy and Kobi Watkins. She is currently studying with ethnic percussionists Doug Brush and Jean Leroy. Also a senior at Whitney Young, Harley plans on studying percussion in Cuba through Sarah Lawrence College, where she will be attending next year.
