MP3 Brian Butler - Axuality Volume I

Cool rockjazz guitar with a high degree of improv, making the sincerity and feel almost tangible.

22 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Instrumental Rock, JAZZ: Jazz Fusion

The following is a description of Brian''s playing as on Axuality, written by a well-known industry professional who would prefer to remain unnamed. (sorry -smile-)

"The unique style of Brian’s playing is characterized
by tone-and-time-modulation which in its character
is reminiscent of the human voice. The phrasing and musical
inflection used by Brian during improvisation is in many
ways similar to that used by human beings during
spontaneous speech.

While listening to Brian’s music
one gets an impression of floating away, and the lack
of lyrical content only supports this feeling as the
music is not ridden by human chatter, while still
having the familiar qualities of the human voice delivered
by the guitar solos.

The improvisational nature of the music keeps the listener
constantly wondering about what is coming next, rather
than bored by repetitive patterns that are so prevalent
in the mainstream music.
In conclusion, it is a very fresh way of performing
and songwriting, and the compositions have an organic
character as they are literally being “grown” on the
spot by the artist."

Recent Press Release:

So that you''ll believe the following statement, we''ll prove it first.

Proof: Brian Butler is an improv rockjazz guitarist, actually making up everything he plays as he plays it.
Statement: Brian Butler really does have a new and different style.

His new CD entitled "Axuality" is filled largely with instrumental tunes -some goodtime tunes, some rhythm & hip, some thinking tunes. And the few vocals are quite unusual and equally thought-provoking.

As a live performance act, Brian''s music is improvised entirely on the moment, as he is playing it. Likewise, a large part of his recorded material is the same, and the rest is very minimally rehearsed to ''get it right''.
Why is the rehearsal held to an extreme minimum?- because the most evocative quality of his music is the up-front sincerity and "live" feel of a music that is planned right on the instant and therefore has no detracting agenda.
This music is not some off-the-wall sounding music, it''s just cool guitar playing reflecting lots of get down rhythm, smile, and flex your muscles.

In addition to this CD, he presents 46 other songs for download on various sites such as iTunes and his home site https://www.tradebit.com.

Having played professionally most of his life, Brian comes from the mid-Midwest, and now lives near Minneapolis.

"Axuality" contains 22 tracks, each of which is right to the point. And the point is, that here is a guitar player whose investment of years in exclusively improvising has developed a style, which like a conversation with a good old friend, is very, very "present" and indeed more "actually there" with you.

Hence ‘axuality’ is not only his website name, but also a tagname for this new recording guit-artist, Brian Butler.

From the artist:

This music has been tagged https://www.tradebit.com for a definite reason.
First of all, it is a pun on ''ax'', which of course is musician slang for guitar or other instrument. More importantly, it is a pun on the word ''actuality'', which I''d like to explain with regard to this music.
I have been a professional improvisational guitarist for over 15 years. That means that almost every time I have picked up my guitar, I have made up the music right there on the spot. I have played maybe 200 songs in this entire 15 years. Everything else that I have played has been made up as I was playing it.
Let me illustrate something. If you and I were to carry on a conversation, you would be improvising your words and I would be improvising my words. We would both be making up what we say, as we said it, duh. But if was responding to everything you said by reading a line from a random speech, there would be some sense that I wasn''t really ''there'' with you.
Consider also that it almost seems that someone who is ad-libbing a talk to an audience seems more ''present'' or more ''real'' (even in the sense of more ''sincere'') than someone who is merely reading an already-written speech. Granted, someone very, very good at reading that speech could seem just as ''present'' or sincere, but then again, someone who is very good at ad-libbing sincerely is probably STILL going to be a step ahead in sounding sincere, or alive. I don''t say that people will consciously notice these things, but I''m confident that subconsciously we pick up on them.
Now this is not to say that the person reading a speech to you is not just as sincere or real or present, but I maintain that the resultant feeling will seem more present or real if ad-libbed.
This is how I sense music that is ad-libbed (or at least ad-libbed to higher degree than traditional music). I believe that I sense something more actual, more "living" about a band who is improvising, than I do about a band who is playing a song, and knowing exactly what they are going to do next, and perhaps not having to think so much about what they are doing. (ask the band who has played ''Smoke on the Water'' 2000 times) That can be robotic, whereas actual ad-libbing requires constant thought about how to present to the https://www.tradebit.coms is not to say that the improvising band is more worthy or better than the other band. Both bands have their advantages of course.
Hence the name Axuality.
