George Porter Jr.
A brief look at George Porter JR''s career will prove that he is the premier bass player and performer. Unmatched and in a league of his own, his career has spanned more than thirty years, working with artists as diverse as Robbie Robertson and Earl King. Beginning in the Mid 60''s, his career started with Eddie Bo and Irving Bannister and his All-stars.
His recording career also began at that time, recording hundreds of songs with Allen Toussaint, Marshall Seahorn, Earl King, Lee Dorsey, and Johnny Adams. His more recent recordings read like a roster of today''s popular stars, including The Headhunters, Albert King, Aaron Neville, Paul McCartney, Tori Amos, Robert Palmer, David Byrne, Robbie Robertson, Patti Labelle and Dr. John. His songs appear everywhere, from the soundtrack of 8 Mile to the CDs of John Scofield and String Cheese Incident.
1965 began a collaboration that has lasted to this day with the Legendary Meters / Funky Meters, considered by many to be the best Rock / Funk Fusion band in the world and is currently leader of his own band, The Pardners.
Johnny Vidacovich
In his very personal approach to percussion, master drummer Johnny Vidacovich combines elements of New Orleans'' traditional rhythms with free techniques and mainstream sensibilities. He is at once a brilliant soloist and a highly sensitive accompanist with the ability to detect and quickly enhance even the subtlest change of direction. His command of dynamics, distinctive melodic conceptions and effervescent swing has brought him international recognition as The Quintessential New Orleans drummer. His unique style and conviction has led to performances with jazz masters Joe Henderson, Donald Byrd, Kenny Barron and Eddie Harris, in addition to performances with modern jam masters Karl Denson, Skeric Walton, G Love, Chris Wood, Luther Dickinson and Stanton Moore. His recording history includes James Booker, Professor Longhair, Mose Allison, John Scofield and Ray Anderson. Johnny''s albums as a leader include "Banks Street" and "Mystery Street" (Chebasco), "Vidacovich" (PawMaw), and the new "We Came to Play" (Trio).
June Yamagishi
June began his career playing and touring extensively in Japan. In the 80''s he toured with artists Carlos Santana, George Duke, War, Robert Cray and Albert Collins. His recording history includes B B King, Dr. John, Henry Butler, Art Neville, and the new 2003 Headhunters CD. Bandleader, guitarist, arranger and co producer of the Wild Magnolias, guitarist with Papa Grows Funk and The Trio, June is a force to be reckoned with.
