Jarek Adamów is associated with folk scene for nine years. He graduated Music Academy ( Conservatoire ) in Poland, in Lódź. His thesis was abuot novadays reconstructions of very old Polish traditional songs. After that moment he started to make music very strongly inspired by Polish Folklore. As a member of few bands he played clarinet, but then he gradually broadened his instrumentarium including drums ( bass drum, darabuka ), sopiÅka ( soprano, bass ), hurdy - gurdy, accordion. He was very successful and won among others :
I place â â MikoÅajki folkowe â festival in Lublin 1997
I place â â Nowa Tradycja â festival in Warsaw 1998
I place â â Folkowa majówka â festival in Radom 1999
II place â â Nowa Tradycja â 2002, as a soloist
In september 1999 he recorded debutanteâs cd which scored â Folk Phonograph of the Year .
In 2000 Jarek participated in musical festival led by â Brave Old World â in Weimar in clarinet class of Kurt Bjorling, improving his technique.
In 2003 he recorded second cd issued by Global Village Music â âSongs of the Medieval Polish Bardsâ which scored Polish prize â â Laureat of the Folk Phonograph of the Year â. He performed a concert in the best and most prestige concert hall in Poland â Witold LutosÅawski Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw, all one was transmitted by Polish Radio.
In 2004 he presented old ballads in Rudolstadt at Tanz and Folk Fest, festival. His concert in church was many times retransmitted by German Radio.

Traditional Polish vocal ansamble - " Sami Swoi " exist 26 years. Just about half of it's members ceased to be.
But the remaining ones still cultivate their old singing tradition

Polish â Ukrainian border. Melting pod of foreign nationalities, cultures and religions. In a past time place of one of the most bloody conflicts in European history. Any town you enter on a eastern border of Poland you gonna see both catholic and ortodox churches. Add to it synagogue that does not exist anymore. Those who survived rarely came back to look into the past. They usually donât even want to talk about it.

I wanted to make this recordings a little bit similiar to historical recordings, which I very like to listen. You could hear that the sound sometimes is not perfect, but we donât live in a perfect world, also. I could record it in many different ways, but I decided to choose right this way, to make it as natural as it is indeed. That was my idea.

This is one of the most authentic and true music project which I have made in my life.

When you read our notes you could be surprised that the songs sometimes talk about funny things. But I just tried to catch the moment in time which was about 70 years ago and be as authentic as possible.
