"Love is the Cure" album storyline
"Love is the Cure" is a 28 instrument multi-genre music production of eleven songs featuring the vocals and multi-faceted guitar work of Carlton Schreiner. His poetic lyrics (posted at https://www.tradebit.com) express key events in the storyline of the Love Is The Cure book (a blend of fiction/non-fiction) which will be released in 2006. This storyline allows you to fully enjoy the CD whether or not you read the book.
The main characters are Adriana, a divorced socialite turned reborn Christian, and Damien, a divorced entrepreneur turned New Age singer-songwriter. They develop a long term Platonic friendship. Although they find each other attractive, various incompatibilities preclude romance until Damien begins to undergo profound changes spiritually. When Adriana realizes she has fallen in love with Damien, he has unbeknownst to her found his guru and fallen in love with God. He plans to move to a meditation monastery to fully dedicate himself to his newfound spiritual path. Damien calls Adriana and lovingly tells her he has something very special to reveal to her in person and arranges a private meeting. Adriana assumes he is going to tell her he is in love with her. When they meet and embrace they have a powerful experience before any words are spoken. As the truth comes out Damien begins to fall in love with Adriana which creates a bittersweet parting that changes their lives. Damien''s remembrances of his unforgettable meeting with Adriana are expressed in the epic bittersweet rock song "Adriana", featuring passionate vocals, emotive lead guitar and cello (song#1).
In his meditations at the monastery Damien seeks to reconcile his powerful experience with Adriana. After attaining a deep state of calmness he sees beyond the micro-drama of "Adriana and Damien" into the macro-drama of millions of men and women seeking endless love from each other with fleeting results! Although he realizes that falling in love with God is his true calling, Damien still dreams of he and Adriana falling in love with God together (song #2).
Eventually Damien has a breakthrough and becomes ecstatically saturated with God''s Love. He realizes that all the sufferings in his life were rooted in trying to feel worthy of love, fearing the loss of love, and hiding his craving for love. Yet behind the restlessness in his heart, God''s Love was always the same! Damien receives a joyous song from God to help him and all wayward souls remember God''s unchanging Truth - "You''ll never be more loved than you are right now" (song#3). Damien is so deeply moved by God''s Love that if death were to come to him at that moment he would have only one last wish - "help me to love more like You" (song #4).
As the years pass, Damien becomes frustrated with his inability to consistently maintain the spiritual inspiration he had attained. He falls into the critical negative self-talk that became a habit while growing up with his perfectionist father. Eventually Damien becomes further dismayed when he realizes he has unintentionally passed some of the haunting perfectionism to his own son! Damien asks God for help and he receives a song to remind him, and to remind many others, that there is only one thing that is perfect (song # 5).

Damien is further humbled when the monastery sends him to a retreat on the Kona Coast of Hawaii hoping he will lighten up and stop taking the spiritual path so seriously. After a few weeks of swimming with dolphins and hiking in the serenely beautiful Place of Refuge he rediscovers the playful childlike joy within him and Mother Nature. Standing on a lava rock cliff overlooking the vast blue sea Damien feels soaring bliss - like he is riding waves of pure joy! A song comes to him to remind him to go "Joy Riding" everyday wherever he is! (Song # 6)
Damien receives a letter from Adriana. Because he was following a guru who came from India, Adriana''s fundamentalist church had persuaded her that Damien was not "saved" and that if she could not convert him to Christ she should stay away from him and seek to marry a true Christian. Although Damien''s guru descended from the spiritual lineage of Christ and lived according to His original teachings, Adriana''s church was able to convince her to adopt their bias. Eventually she married a church member. Unfortunately he turned out to be an alcoholic and began to abuse Adriana while making the excuse that he was merely giving her what she deserved as a sinner. He spread lies about her within the church so that no one would believe her if she tried to expose him. Adriana turns to Damien because he has always been a true friend to her, regardless of circumstances. Damien replies to her with the advice to seek out a trusted wise woman, known as "Mama Breeze", who was known for turning people''s lives around with her affectionate wisdom and her carefree dancing (song #7).
Adriana''s relationship with Mama Breeze empowers her to spiritually stand up for herself for the first time in her life. Accordingly, new doors open for Adriana and her life straightens out! When Damien hears about her transformation he writes her a song of encouragement (song #8).
Damien''s best friend, Michael, had introduced him to meditation many years ago and inspired him with his devotional singing. Now living in the same meditation ashram, Damien looks up to him like a big brother. But Michael, an "incurable romantic", has a weakness for falling blindly in love with women and completely losing himself. Already a father to children from two failed marriages, Michael is clinging to his marriage to God. However, his weakness prevails and he leaves the ashram to move in with a woman who everyone else could see was not sincere. Damien is crushed and writes a blues song about "Cupid''s Wine"(song # 9) to vent his feelings.
Finding consolation in the healing peace of deep meditation Damien reflects on the many mistakes he has made in life which had been forgiven and the Grace that had guided him through so many trials and grief. He offers the pain in his heart into that Grace and is filled with transforming Love! This inspires Damien to revise the lyrics to the popular song, "Amazing Grace", to share his new understanding of the liberating joy of God''s Grace (song #10).
Damien has never felt clearer about his purpose in life. Finally he has found the language of the Universe - the silent language spoken by the soul shining through the eyes of open-hearted people of all lands, forever whispering in the heart of God, and forever whispering in the hearts of all God''s children no matter how deeply they fall! Damien knows he was born just to let Love shine through him and to help others let Love shine through them. Dancing with joy Damien knows there is nothing Love cannot endure - Love is the healer and the cure! (song #11).
