COUNTRY: Country Pop, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
Beacon Point has broken onto the Atlantic Canadian music scene with material born of a collaboration of complimentary musical talent. Original songs written and produced by the artists speak to the diverse influences that played a hand in the creation. Like the memorable albums of our time, the songs defy a single classification, and are all undeniably durable. Dreaming in Love and Moonlight Blue have a Pop Rock flavor, while Small town and Summertime have country rock overtones and listeners will find the lyrics and guitar hooks pleasantly reverberate through the mind. Band members Terry Parsons and Bill Whalen have a family history of musical talent, so originally composed work comes at no surprise. Both were born to parents from Bell Island, Newfoundland, who wrote, performed, and toured both within Newfoundland and nationally. Both Terry and Bill started performing in clubs at a young age and perfected the live performance the only way possible— through sheer determination. The pair held down full time jobs during the work week and separately performed cover tunes in assorted bands five nights a week in St. John’s downtown for many years. In 80’s Terry played his originals in the renowned George Street Festival and Strand Lounge where his voice was likened to the late Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynett (Newfoundland Herald July 1987) . The 90’s brought bass and vocals with The Privateers album “Taken by Storm”. He was touted as a “well rounded musician, good bass player” (The Express Sept 1992) .Terry personally funded a release of a compilation of his original songs in 1994. The drive to record his work has always been there, but not until he teamed with band mate Bill Whalen was the destination reached. Bill himself has composed songs for a privately funded album in conjunction with the late Ray McLean. He opened up for the Carlton Show band, playing with members of the Gold selling Album makers The Newfoundland Show band in 1995. More recently Bill played with Dick Nolan during a tribute night to Dick’s lifelong career this summer. Bill has copiously studied many styles of lead guitar and has an uncanny ability to capture the sound of the legendary guitarists of our time. His own Southern country Rock guitar style shines through with every performance. One of the earliest collaborations Liam’s Song was written in an emotionally tumultuous time of the artists’ life. The melody and lyrics are soul deep and speak to loving the good and free things in life to the fullest. The harmonies of the two artists’ voices are perfectly suited to the song. As one lyric from Small town says “I’m gonna make it, I know, someday”. Beacon Point is on its way to doing just that.
