Setting up the Affiliate Link Cloaker (alc):

1. Open the zip file and unzip into a folder by name "alc" within
   your web site's root directory (where your home page resides), on your PC (hard disk)..
   If you're hosted on a Unix server, the case of "alc" is
   extremely important. Please make sure the letters are all in lower case
   (because "alc" is different from "ALC").
   
   
2. alc_track.php - You will not need to change anything in this page.
   This contains the form where your affiliate - or your self - will
   be entering the long url that is to be cloaked, along with a keyword.
   
   
3. alc_track.php submits the form to alc_track_submit.php .
   Open alc_track_submit.php with your favorite text editor.
   
   
4. Modify the contents inside:
   The contents of the file are shown in RED. My comments, which will be helpful in understanding these variables, are in BLACK.
   Your final file should NOT contain any of the comments. They're for instructional purposes only.
   
   The text that you can change is in BLUE.
   
   
   
   $cloakDir is where all the cloaked files will be created.
   You can name this whatever you choose.
   
   

5. You will not need to change anything else in this file.
   Save and close alc_track_submit.php.
   

6. You can create two files - "header.php" and "footer.php"
   which you can use to customize the look and feel of the Affiliate Link Cloaker
   for your own web site. Simply put HTML code within these
   files and save it in the same folder.
   
   You may also choose not to customize it.
   
   

7. Upload the contents of alc to a similarly named folder
   alc, created in your root directory on your web server.
   

8. chmod the following to 777 ((Click here for a chmod tutorial)
   
   a. The alc folder
   b. The cloaked directory (ex., dir )- where all the cloaked pages will reside.
   
   This step is critical for the Link Cloaker to be able to create files within the cloak directory.
   

9. To access the Affiliate Link Cloaker Type visit the following link in your web browser
   (Internet Explorer or Netscape):
   
   (Note: Before that, make sure you replace the text https://www.tradebit.com by the name
   of your web site - in my case, this would be "https://www.tradebit.com")

10. This page is very intuitive. Just enter the long url and the keyword and submit
    the form. You should get the cloaked url on the next page.
    
    
11. Remember:
    
    The Cloaker will create one page per keyword, within the Cloaked Directory
    that you have specified (in this example, that is dir ).
    
    The script will also send you an email every time a link is cloaked. This helps
    you keep track of its usage, in case you are opening it out to your affiliates
    on your web site.
    
    
12. If you wish to delete any cloaked links, simply go to the cloaked directory
    (dir) and delete the corresponding file.
    
    
13. Finally, one important piece of advise that we recommend you to
    follow very strongly:

    Test the system thoroughly before you open it to your affiliates or to the general public.
