HIP-HOP/RAP: Spiritual Rap, URBAN/R&B: R&B Rap mix
Born Sheppard Daniels, III in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Tigah began his rap career at the age of 5. He added writing to his growing list of talents at the ripe old age of 12. Years later his rap career began to take off and he was signed to a deal with So So Def Records. He began working with artists such as Nelly, Bow Wow, T.I. and Jazzy Pha to name a few. As a buzz began to grow behind his music, his deal with So So Def ended before he could release an album. As he worked to keep building his career, Tigah decided to step away from the music business and pursue a bigger more spiritual calling. “Once I got saved, I could no longer make the kind of music I was making,” said Tigah. “I had to change a lot of things in my life in order for the lord to move within me.”
After spending several months building his faith and getting closer to God, Tigah’s love for music began to speak to him once again. Tigah reached out to his now business partner, Troy Guinyard and expressed his desire to get back into the music game. They came together and formed Solomon Sheppard Music. With his strong love for making music, Tigah started rapping again but about his new love for God. “I want the world to remember that I love Jesus and I’m a soldier for Christ,” said Tigah.
So now Tigah is sharing his faith through his catchy lyrics and infectious beats otherwise known as “truth music”. He hasn’t lost the style that got him noticed by So So Def CEO Jermaine Dupri and the rest of the music community. He is just talking about different things. He now wants to use his music to uplift and enlighten everyone, not just the members of the religious community. “I want my music to change people’s lives by introducing them to Christ,” said Tigah
Truth Music is bridging the gap between gospel and mainstream
Tigah, one of the founders of Solomon Sheppard Music and Entertainer is about to introduce the world to truth music.
“Truth music is the musical form of knowing and accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and personal savior,” said Tigah.
Troy, the other founder of Solomon Sheppard Music, agrees. “Back in the day, hip hop talked about drugs, women and partying and the consequences involved with that type of lifestyle. Hip hop today doesn’t talk about the consequences anymore. It only focuses on the upside of living the fast life. We want to show the youth that there is a better way to live life.”
Many people would just think that truth music is another form of Christian or gospel rap. The difference with truth music is that it is created as a way to bring God to the masses. As an artist who once garnered success in the hip hop arena, Tigah brings an interesting perspective to the music industry.
“Once I got saved, I could no longer make the kind of music I was making before,” said Tigah. “I wanted my music to change people’s lives by introducing them to Christ.”
“This isn’t just gospel music, it’s music. It’s music to feed the soul. It’s music to reach and enrich and encourage people to do better,” to live the way God Want us" said Troy.
At the beginning of his career, Tigah worked with artists like Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow and Jazzy Pha. He was best known for his catchy lyrics and infectious uptempo beats. Now he’s taking those same skills that got him noticed by the CEO of So So Def Records and using them to uplift people.
“Truth Music is the beginning of a movement,” said Troy. “It’s what the world needs and we see it as being bigger than life. It’s going to reach the masses. The doubters, nonbelievers and people with something to say will see. What we are doing is a calling. It’s not a coincidence. It’s all in God’s divine plan.”
