I was truly impressed with Norwegian guitarist - Tore Morten Andreassen''s Fusive Illusions cd from 2003, he showed enough on that cd to make a statement that he would be an artist that I would keep an open ear for in the future, his skill level, tasteful songwriting, and ear friendly style made for a cd that was enjoyable from start to finish, now fast forward to 2007, where Tore Morten Andreassen releases his latest work called - Eclipse, and wow! What a radical change, and for the better I must say. What Tore was doing right on Fusive Illusions, he has multiplied tenfold on this cd, everything is amped up and improved upon and in every possible way. While I was expecting more of the same safe jazz infused westcoast style music, I was rocked when hearing this cd for the first time, and still am many plays later.
Tore has gone more towards the electric side of things, and has adopted a more progressive style of music from which to display his songwriting skills and deft guitar playing. This cd takes a more daring approach into jazz/rock apart from the safe zone from which he operated under with his 2003 material. I am so glad to hear this, this is an artist that has grown through taking some chances. Eclipse is still highly melodic music, and the vibe all the way through is very uptempo and fun, yet he has taking a more aggressive playing approach in both speed, articulation, and tone from his guitar playing, and the use of keyboards is also very modern, if not somewhat futuristic.
This music while being based around Andreassens'' guitar, is not that of a guitar recording so to speak, extensive use of guitar synth gives the music a feel of jazz fusion balanced with ample amounts of progressive rock, as well as some other infectious elements. Very few fusion artists are creating music that meets the demands of the listeners who have nearly heard the best there is to offer, in order to make an impact, having an individual sound, mixed with skills and compositinal savvy are a must, I feel here on Eclipse, Tore has done just that, This is a modern sounding cd, with throwback appeal as well, and by the time the cd ends, you are wanting to hear more.
I urge fans of good music, to go to Tore''s Myspace site and sample some of what I am hearing through my system here at home, this is a very pleasant surprise, and I can only hope that others can get a chance to hear this talented artist from Norway.
