MP3 Timothy Vajda - Bootstrap Physics
Alternately brisk and restful, steeped in ancient traditions and informed by a wide range of modern musical genres, this is a fresh, new style of chamber music. Viola da gamba and medieval fiddle blend organically with electric guitar and synthesizer.

NEW AGE: Contemporary Instrumental, CLASSICAL: Contemporary
Details:
“Vajda plays all the instruments and writes all the tunes on this instrumental disc, and it is really compelling. His primary instrument is the viola da gamba, which looks like a cello, plays like a cello — but it’s a viola. Regardless of my ignorance on that topic, I can still appreciate the beauty of this music. Soothing, intriguing and different enough to make it stand out.” - Toledo City Paper
The musical style, as well as the instrumentation, of “Bootstrap Physics” grew out of years of playing viola da gamba and medieval fiddle in early music ensembles while also playing electric guitar in a band that played rock and blues covers, and specialized in free-form improvisation. The style was also influenced by Eastern European folk music, as well as the music of Steve Reich and other contemporary composers.
Tracks from “bootstrap physics” have received frequent airplay on the nationally syndicated radio program “Echoes”, and have been used as bumper music on Minnesota Public Radio.
