MP3 Flip City Entertainment - The Urban Re-collective

A fundamental Hip Hop experience, a little trippy. Mostly true, as well as humorous. It basically sounds like 2 Rastafarian hip hop heads having a nervous breakdown in the company of like minded friends.

12 MP3 Songs
HIP-HOP/RAP: Underground Rap, ELECTRONIC: Trip Hop

So now do tell ; what do you get when 2 trini’s who love hip hop in the land of Soca music and Carnival; put together a studio and compile an album? Worse yet form a label.

Flip City Entertainment is a battle fought everyday. From the nay sayers and the people who ask the dumb million dollar questions like; “Why you 2 don’t do Soca Music”?

Born to stand out from usual Trini mediocre mess; 2 simple guy’s gathered some like minded and talented Trini MC’s who love hip hop just as much; and started doing the music that just felt right.

“We’ve faced radio stations who call themselves “Urban” down here (in Trinidad); slamming doors in our faces”. DJ D’Chris says.

“I’ve been thrown out by so many radio stations” Boogie (Flip City’s Co Founder) says. “It’s as if I’m committing crimes against society”.

On this endevour; the Trinidadian born hip hop platoon pays respects to different areas of the urban sound scape. Boogie even re-visits his London Underground bashment roots by re- animating a Drum ‘n Bass piece.

“What we are trying to show is real diversity”. DJ D’Chris says

“Thats the true reasoning behind the Urban Re-Collective”. Boogie says

Here is some more info on the duo who built the Flip City:

One of the truest HIP HOP FIENDS known to life right now. Born in Trinidad, raised in Brooklyn. Ex B-Boy, Ex-EMCEE, Ex Graff Writer; now manifested as a notorious Beat Fiend and slave to the Boom Bap era. His love for the Hip Hop life and mind state reaches religous proportions.

He has also paid the price for it as well; having experiences of sleeping underneath the JS Series mixing console at Chung King Studios, seeing EPMD lay down tracks for "Business as Usual" and 3rd Bass do the "Cactus Album"; even knowing Redman when he was on the come up; it could be safe to say that this cat has seen some things.

He always had a natrual swagger for making beats; his idols were: Dj Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock (who he respects and fears at the same time), Dj Muggs From Cypress Hill and Ali Shaheed from A Tribe Called Qwest. After seeing some of the masters at work at the craft; he realised that his ideas were''nt off track at all. He then started his mission of building his own studio and doing his own dirt.

His style is sincere and true to the essence; and though he would''nt call himself an EMCEE any more; you could still hear him rant on a couple of his joints; which we can also safely say is entertainment.

CHRIS AKA Dj. D''Chris - The second member and Production Dj of Dem 2 Boie production team. At the age of ten Chris''s mom tried to harness the passion he had for music at that age by sending him to piano lessons little did she know she was releasing an unstopable force. What he learnt however didnt take him to the place he was trying to find not until at the age of fourteen when he was introduced by a friend to a pair technics 1200s, a dj was born and he further surrounded himself with the Elements of Hip Hop.

Finding himself at many house parties but unable to afford 1200s his rig comprised of a tape deck and an old 8 track stereo using the record player it carried, he quickly got the name Dj TDK. Chris also found himself playing at major parties and for Carnival bands on their music trucks during what is called the Carnival Season in Trinidad & Tobago. Over the years as his talent and presence grew his face showed up in places from his own Open Mic Sessions, to poetry spots and to Underground Hip Hop parties.

In 2005 he travelled to NY where he met up with greats like Grandwizard Theodore, Grand Mixer DXT, Jazzy Jay, Chuck D & Prof. Griff from Public Enemy, Dj. Johnny Juice, Neil Armstrong Of 5th Platoon, Dj. Jesse Felluss to name a few. Now in his 20s Chris has evolved from the party dj to a production dj. Where his love for the art of turntablism and beat making thrives. He is now a graduate from The Scratch Academy of NY and is currently building his own recording studio to continue his journey unto perfection of the art.

“I mean; so far we’ve been labeled as un-patriotic, fresh water yankee (pseudo american) to God alone knows”. Boogie says

“All we know is; hip hop just feels right to us. We can see ourselves doing anything else”. D’Chris ends.
