Chiba-Ken is a Post-Hardcore quintet based out of New York City. The singer, George William, comes from a Heavy Rock/Alternative Metal backround. Bands like the Deftones, VOD, and Faith No More have influenced his vocal style. He started singing at age 7 in school and in his church choir, When he was 14 he discovered his father''s old drumset and like his father before him, taught hinmself how to play. When George left for college he couldn''t bring the drums, so he bought himself a guitar and taught himself to play by ear. From 2001 to 2003 George recorded 21 songs on his own... the beginning of Chiba-Ken.
Joshua Jaffe, a bass player for 14 years, comes from a wide range of influences such as Cliff Burton, Les Claypool, Robert Trujillio, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Al Green. After playing bass for a good two years, he finally figured out what a bass was, and decided he wanted to set himself apart from the boring bass standards he found himself surrounded by. To accomplish this Joshua broke through his all-metal playlist and allowed himself to be heavily influenced by Motown soul, big-band swing, and hip-hop rhythm and syncopation to create his own personal, if not unique, bass sound and style.
Elias Tannous, the lead guitarist, is mainly influenced by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, 311, Offspring, Metallica, Jimmy Hendrix and Guns ''n'' Roses, to name a few, though Elias was primarily influenced through his ten years of playing classical piano. He played piano competitively and was even able to perform at Carnegie Hall. Through this he gained a firm understanding of music theory and composition. Although he has only been playing guitar for 3 years, his lifetime of music has made it easier for him to excel at the instrument.
Jason D''Amelio, the drummer, has been playing drums for around 10 years. His main influences include Nirvana, Tool, Korn, Candira, Meshuggah, Dave Matthews, Slipknot, and many more. He has been playing in bands since he was 13 years old and has been performing in NYC with rock bands since he was 16. Throughout his career he has been fortunate enough to have met and been taught by some of his favorite drummers, such as Ken Schalk of Candiria. With his many years of experience behind him, Jason''s knowledge of the music industry has helped Chiba-ken accelerate their growth.
Eddie Delgado, the last member to join Chiba-Ken, completes Chiba-Ken''s full sound with his keen musical input. His influences include Deftones, Metallica, KillSwitch Engage and Alice in Chains. Eddie has been playing the guitar for 14 years, he started when he was 10. Eddie is also familiar with the music industry and band relationships because he has been in bands since he was 12 years old. After playing in the Dallas, Texas scene he returned to his native state New Jersey and joined Chiba-Ken. His Crunchy, harder riffs fit perfectly and completed the unique sound that is Chiba-Ken.
Chiba-Ken has toured the northeast and mid-west United States and has played numerous shows in the NY/NJ area.
