CLEMENS / Propaganda...
CLEMENS formed in the Spring of 2000 in beautiful Kent, Ohio. They have since shared the stage with Thursday, Nada Surf, River City High, Small Brown Bike, Wheat, Drowningman, Anberlin, Mae, Brandtson and Further Seems Forever, among others. Their debut ep, "Resolutions," was painstakingly recorded over four months at Kent''s legendary Moondog Studios--home to scene heroes Party of Helicopters, the Six Parts Seven, and the godfathers of indie rock, Guided by Voices.
Mood*Ring Industries released "Resolutions" in 2003. The cd contains four tracks, each beautifully recorded and unique. "Mulholland" is a brooding, plaintive exercise in texture, with guitars that expand and collapse like fluttering lungs around cement-mixer drums and delayed, soaring vocals. "Fiber Optics" and "Save the Clocktower" are intricate, energetic, complex cycles of mood and melody, and the epic closer, "Holding Caulfield," is nothing short of breathtaking--featuring violin and piano, the final four minutes of the song will leave you gasping for air.
Drawing upon a varied mix of influences from the delicate melody of Radiohead, to My Bloody Valentine''s wall of guitars, to the skittering, glitchy electronics of Aphex Twin, CLEMENS'' music is liltingly atmospheric and profoundly dynamic. They are brutal and soothing, often within the span of the same song. With a spastic, unrelenting live show to match, CLEMENS more than lives up to the hype surrounding this ep.
The band is currently recording their as-yet-untitled full length album for release later this year.
