Hyacinth - George A. Birmingham

Rev. James Owen Hannay used the pseudonym George A Birmingham. Hannay was an Irish clergyman. His controversial writing in his first novel The Seething Pot led him to decide to withdraw form the Gaelic League. In this novel published in 1906 Hyacinth Conneally is portrayed as she moved from Protestantism to Irish nationalism and finally rejects fanaticism in favor of faith and family. The author shows the transition of a young girl's faith with the haunting backdrop of the Emerald Isle.
