Details:
David Scher was born in Austin, TX in 1986 and can’t remember a time when he didn’t love music. Beginning with a musically rich Montessori pre-school education, and continuing with piano lessons beginning at the age of 8, he then transitioned to the guitar by age 10. After spending about a year picking out chords and trying things on his own, he began guitar lessons at age 11, and continued to learn everything he could in the following years, adding the violin to his repertoire when he entered middle school. David spent his school years playing music at every opportunity, both in the school orchestra and then later in the high school jazz ensemble. Frustrated by the limited opportunities at his school in Austin, he made the decision to leave home and move to Dallas where he was admitted to the Booker T. Washington H.S. for the Performing and Visual Arts for the last two years of high school. There David was really able to grow as a musician, receiving many opportunities to hone his performance skills and learn from many professionals, both in the Dallas area and also around the country, as he traveled to many cultural events with the various school ensembles. Following high school, David enrolled at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he is currently in his fourth semester.
David has always considered his first love to be the blues. The raw emotion and intense power of the music spoke to him from an early age. Early influences include Ray Charles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Muddy Waters, and Freddie King. From a foundation of blues, he later branched out to new material and new styles. Additional influences include Willy Porter, Colin Hay, and Stevie Wonder, whose styles can be recognized in David’s debut record, “The Real Deal.”
