Details:
When the members of the Boston-based band, Miskatonic, sat down to think of an appropriate name, they tried to find something to describe their edgy sound steeped in new wave, rock, and punk. After much debate, mainly surrounding Paul’s insistence that “edgy” people love sci-fi novels and role playing games, the band name was derived from the cult classic H.P. Lovecraft creation, Miskatonic University.
Made up of refugees from the bands Calendar Girl, Ultrabreakfast, and Cheater Pint, Miskatonic melodies provided by Tim Farrell (guitar, vocals) and Paul Wisner (guitar, synth, vocals) combine with Mark Patti’s aggressive drums, Steve Kelly’s driving bass and Elizabeth Firger’s powerful lead vocals to appeal to fans of all rock genres.
As an alternative rock band from a city full of musicians, Miskatonic’s goal is to bring their own artistic innovations to the sounds they loved from the underground of the 80’s and 90’s. After two years of song writing pulled from a diverse set of influences (from The Cars to The Pixies), the band’s sound has gelled into something distinctive. Their debut full length CD, “Let Us Entertain Us”, is set to hit the airwaves in the fall of 2007 and is an energetic rock/pop/punk collection of catchy hooks and beats to jump around to.
Miskatonic has been busy, playing frequently in some of Boston’s trendiest rock clubs – TT The Bears, the Middle East, and the Abbey Lounge to name a few. Recently as a finalist in the Emergenza Music Festival, they drew crowds of fans to the Paradise rock club and Avalon. Their live performances, along with airplay on local radio stations, have caught the attention of area critics.
