Acoustic guitarist Patrick Ki’s sixth CD is entitled “Sapphire”, and it reveals yet another evolving facet in the musical direction of this gifted jazz/slack-key instrumental artist.
While his three previous albums had featured relaxing and soothing versions of famous popular songs, “Sapphire” was the first CD released by Patrick after he had completed an inspiring journey to Brazil. Hence, there is a somewhat upbeat yet still smooth Latin flavor to the overall sound of this exciting recording.
Patrick’s music embodies a unique essence that directly results from the diversity of his life experiences and depth of musical training. In particular, Patrick’s two formal music degrees have enabled him to embrace both the jazz and classical worlds while somehow still retaining the gentle melodic influence of the slack-key guitar that is the trademark of his native Hawaii. When further combined with the Latin flair that Patrick absorbed while in Brazil, something very rare is given musical expression.
