JUST AWARDED A SILVER HONOR PARENTS'CHOICE AWARD!(https://www.tradebit.coments'https://www.tradebit.com) Daisy Nell is an artist who truly understands children"-- Jack Langstaff, founder of Revels, Inc, Cambridge, MA. Daisy Nell and Capt. Stan are a mainstay of the music scene north of Boston on Cape Ann. Hailing from Essex, MA, they have sung and sailed their way along the musical tributaries from Massachusetts to Alaska. (Visit their web site https://www.tradebit.com for information on their other albums) From Daisy Nell: Welcome to my new album for kids of all ages, BOUGHT ME A ROOSTER! These old songs are my old friends. I have sung them for years, and still hear the voices of the singers of my childhood: my father, Burl Ives, Peter Seeger, Bessie Jones. I sang them to my own children, in performances along with so-called adult folk music, and have used them in the various schools and museum settings where I have taught. They are part of our history and culture in the community of humans and animals. I have always believed that even babies and very young children respond to the classic melodies and stories in folk songs. As a child I marveled at the notion of the animals in Leatherwinged Bat saying "Hi" to each other in the song. It's a very old song, and more than likely the original intention was that they said "Aye". It probably changed to "Hi" down through the years. And there's a science lesson in there when the owl says, "Court all night and sleep all day". If you know that owls hunt at night, it all makes some kind of sense. Here we are singing about their habits and habitats with an opportunity to teach our kids the real from the fanciful. The Fox song tells of animal hunting instincts and human interaction without "taking sides". We relate to the goose, Mrs. Flipper Flopper, as well as the fox. Who could deny the fox family their meal, when presented through the words, "Daddy, you better go back again 'cuz it must be a mighty fine town-o."? To add some movement, try the steps to the Georgia Sea Islands ring dance An Old Lady From Brewster. How about a little waltz or a polka to Cockles and Mussels and Skip To My Lou. Visit me at my website for more ideas for music in the home and classroom. The words to all of these songs are there, too, for you to download. Enjoy!
