Chasing Tjanongombe is an account of my time with one particular Himba family in the Kunene region of Namibia. The narrative and subsequent photographs cover my 5 years of visiting the Himbinda family. During this time I experienced the harsh realities of life as a Himba, as I saw firsthand, the highs and lows of their daily life. Chasing Tjanongombe also gives the reader an insight into the continual struggle these beautiful people have against an encroaching western culture. This struggle is illustrated in my favourite colour photographs from this 5 year period. They depict all aspects of the area, family life and of Chief Tjanongombes battle with cancer. The photographs unobtrusively allow a close and personal insight into Himba life, culture and rituals that has rarely been photographed by a western photographer.
