This is where a normal artist might try swaying you with words, telling you how great their new CD is, comparing themselves to artists ten times better than them, and then quoting a couple lines from the glowing review the CD had received in the latest Penny Saver.
We arenât going to do that, though.
Instead, weâre going to tell you a little bit about you and hope that our mutual understanding of what it is youâre looking for in your next CD purchase will help you come to realize that the new Destroy The Heart CD was recorded with you in mind.
To assist us is Destroy The Heart singer/songwriter Darren Robbins:
"Remember when radio rocked? Generations of rock fans grew up listening to tons of great bands filling the airwaves. Because you tended to hear more good songs than bad, we became conditioned to reflexively turn on the radio the moment weâd get in the car. Nowadays, though, you turn the radio on and are instantly filled with a desire to chuck the darn thing out the window.
There were so many cool bands that one could easily run out of wall space to hang posters of their favorite rock heroes. We recall most vividly the poster of Blondieâs Debby Harry (circa 1981, sans bra) that was positioned just above my bed. My dad noticed that one too, as I recall.
Truth be told, I didnât buy too many posters because then that meant thereâd be less money to spend on another cool album or single.
Remember singles? Those 7â hunks of vinyl that rotated at 45rpm (or 33rpm if it was a UK single)?. I remember walking into the local hardware store, which always carried the latest hit singles of the day, and seeing âMy Sharonaâ single, complete with picture sleeve featuring a sultry shot of the woman for whom the song had been written.
Sharona (who, in real life, would become my real estate agent when I moved to L.A.), was also pictured sans bra (notice a theme here?) and my decision to purchase said single was done with very little contemplation. Aside from being visually stunning, the music found within those grooves also spun my head around and I knew right then and there that if I were ever to acquire a woman like that, I too would have to be in a band.
Not having the funds (or patience) for the guitar, I began making noise on my dadâs drum set and, before long, Iâd formed my first band. Dad was kind enough to let me use his kit for some of our early gigs, but as he was also in a band at the time, there were some nights where we both had gigs the same night. This led one of us (can you guess which one?) to go out and buy our own kit to avoid any further scheduling conflicts.
A couple years ago, I found myself looking back for my rock heroes because the ones on the current musical landscape just werenât doing the trick. It was then that I walked out of the cubicle farm and back into the rock world, armed with only the belief that if nobody else was going to make music that could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Cheap Tricks and Tom Pettys of my youth then, fuck it, I would.
I know there are tons of people out there just like me, hungry for music that makes the tiny hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and makes you want to tell everyone you know about it.
Destroy The Heart is the album we made with that in mind and will tell you quite honestly that the work my producer Adam Schmitt did to help me realize my musical vision succeeded in making the tiny hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I heard the finished masters. And, as youâve probably figured out by now, I want to tell everyone I know about it.
(R.I.P. Dad, this oneâs for you.)"
