Details:
"98 in the Shade" has been a mainstay on the Gulf Coast music circuit for over sixteen years. The band originated in Galveston, Texas, in 1991 when Jim Pregler replaced Jim Krebs at the helm of another Gulf Coast favorite "Salty Dog". Together with guitarist and long-time friend Mark Kingsley and Port Arthur native Marty Monte who joined the mix in 1993, the band enjoyed an unprecedented nine year run as house band at the legendary Strand Street Saloon, a favorite routing destination for such national acts as Leon Russell, Pat Travers, Rick Derringer and "The Georgia Satellites", as well as many regional favorites. Drummer Vince Mejia, a veteran of Joe King Carrasco, teamed up with Pregler in 2003 while "98" was taking what would turn out to be a six year break. The duo put together a drum/bass rhythm section and spent time backing up such notables as Grammy nominated guitarist Bert Wills, Bay Area Vocalist of the Year Janet Z, Rocky Hill (brother of Z Z Top bassist Dusty Hill), Tommie Lee Bradley (vocalist (REO Speedwagon, Harry Chapin) and others. "98 in the Shade" got back together in 2006 with original members Kingsley, Monte, Pregler and newcomer Mejia after making an impromptu appearance at a fund raiser. They have since added vocalist Andra Mitrovich, inductee to the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame as a member of "Big Brother and the Holding Company" and one of the stars of "Love, Janis" a play about Janis Joplin in which she portrays Joplin. The band has just completed their first CD under the direction of Grammy nominated engineer Andy Bradley at the famed Sugarhill Studios in Houston, Texas. The CD, titled "Complicated", will be available December 5th, 2007. (Go to https://www.tradebit.com for additional information on the band or CD.)
