BIO:
Jonny Lipford is an 18-year-old self taught musician from northern Florida. He began playing the Native American Flute at the age of 14. Even at such a young age Jonny knew that this was no passing whim. This was his destiny. His passion for the Native American Flute, and music in general, is shaping his musical career sending him to various places around the United States. To many, Jonny is considered to be an "Old Soul". His wisdom and outlook on life far exceeds his young age.
Along with playing the Native American Flute, Jonny also plays many other instruments...all by ear. Though he cannot read music, he understands it and has a great sense of melody. When Jonny was around the age of 8 he took piano lessons but dropped out after only a few lessons. The timing wasn''t right. To date Jonny has written several piano pieces, two of which are featured on his newly released (August ''07) CD titled, "Transitions: Out of the Flames & Into the Wind". Such tracks include both "No Ordinary Love" and "Vanilla Skies". Along with these two pieces, including flute, are other songs that range widely in genre with influences from pop, blues, jazz, latin, and many others.
Jonny''s music has captivated the hearts of many listeners and he hopes to reach the hearts and lives of more audiences on his journey with this amazing instrument. His music has been recognized by many radio stations including Two Worlds, a weekly program devoted to two hours of Native American music on WMNF 88.5 in Tampa, FL. Jonny was also featured in the Artist Spotlight on https://www.tradebit.com which is the worlds largest Native American Radio Station with streaming audio 24/7. Between traveling, performing, and daily life, Jonny still finds time to express himself with composing new music for his next album which he plans to release late 2008.

Listening to this CD, it’s difficult to imagine that the composer and artist, Jonny Lipford, has only just turned 18. His compositions suggest an individual of far greater years of musical experience and life travels. He truly has an old soul.

His sounds range from joyful to soulful. His melodies are dressed with a variety of well-executed embellishments; his movements and transitions are as smooth as the glassy surface of a lovely lake on a warm, still day. Varied rhythms blend with keyboard and flute creating beautiful soundscapes that invite the listener to travel to places in their own hearts. All instruments are performed by Mr. Lipford.

Both his songs and their titles make this listener want to sit down with him over a cup of coffee and hear his heart and understand the movement of his soul within the pieces, and in return, share where they have taken me.

Dancing Hawks – Dual flutes create a carefree sound that, as the title suggests, dances like birds in a warm summer sky. The complexity of the interplay between the two flutes carries one along for the ride.

Chosen Path – Close your eyes, sway with the music and you can almost feel your heart begin to gently dance as this song takes you on a journey.

No Ordinary Love – A quiet, midrange, introspective piece that intertwines piano and flute in graceful interchange.

Summer Nights – This song begins with a haunting sound that progresses as the drone joins in. Jonny showcases his talent here in the transitions and harmonies between the drone and the primary melody. The depth is dramatic and inspiring.

Blue Rocks – As the title suggests, this is a bluesy piece, jaunty in nature. The melody and rhythm are quite playful. You can’t help but find yourself swaying and foot tapping to this song.

Could Be – This song steps back into a slower, more soulful and contemplative sound.

Always Forever – To this listener, this song has a settled, contented feel; the sound of one who walks sure of himself, with vision and peace.

Vanilla Skies – Here the sound transitions to a more somber tone. Piano and flute blend to invite relaxation and peace.

Prarie Dawg – I’d love to know how this song got its name! It’s a happy little tune that settles in takes you for the ride. This is certainly one of this listener’s favorite pieces.

Essence of Change – Much like Judiac music, this piece invokes in this listener feelings of sadness woven together with gentle hope, sorrow and soft joy together in one place and time. It is very soulful. Multiple flutes give this piece a depth of sound that pulls the listener in to deep places.

Yesterday’s Tomorrow – Like a walk through a green pasture under blue skies, this song invites one to journey, taking in the beauty of the day.

In the Rain – This song pulls in the deep sound of a lower-voiced flute. It is a gentle and beautiful melody.

I most highly recommend this CD. You’ll want extras for gifts!
