Novena Boy is the creative expression and artistic passion of Richard Paul Clark.

Following is a decade format bio, listing notable events and influences;

1960s;
Leap-Day, February 29, 1960 âThe Voyage Begins...â born Picseis to loving and supportive parents; his mom, once a New York City opera and Broadway singer and his dad, once a Trappist monk in Kentucky.

1960-1962; Lived in Climax, Colorado (Fremont Pass);
1962-1967; Lived in Leadville, Colorado

Leap-Day Baby, and a Piceaen, Clark was born and raised in the âthin airâ (10k feet +) towns of Colorado, namely Climax and Leadville Later his family moved to Canon City. Via his fatherâs active encouragment and support, he began playing in bands professionally and in schools since he was 13. Vital musical interests and influences in those formative years were; Gregorian Chant, Lawrence Welk, Herb Alpertâs Tijuana Brass, Neil Diamond, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Deodato, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, the music of Star Trek & Space:1999 and, later, The Police In his high school years, he was chosen for All State Band @ UNC, Greeley and attended the Oral Roberts University jazz & music camps in Tulsa, OK. Fresh after graduating from Canon City High School, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and Dick Grove Music Workshops in L.A. While in L.A., he studied under Nick Ceroli (Tijuana Brass) and toured the area with the L.A. Country-Rock band Red Eye Express and did recording at Hollywoodâs A & M studios. In 1981, he returned to Canon City working in the cold-room of an ice house. During this time he continued to gig sporadically. In 1985 Richard hired on as a cab driver, where he spent over 13 years and 500,000 miles behind the wheel of a taxi cab (both day and night shifts....), witnessing and interacting with every walk and phase of human life. There, he met his Heart-Mirror and life love and was married. In the following years, they were blessed with two healthy and intelligent sons. Later the couple bought and ran the same taxi company for several years. During this time Richard sought and found expression for his lifelong interest and passion for trains by being a recreational hobo on the historic and now-abandoned Tennessee Pass line high in Colorado. found expression Clark then worked for 3 years as a fresh fruit vendor to convenience stores, thence (with his Makerâs Grace and his familyâs patience) allowing and inviting music to become his full-time livlihood. He has been a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers since 1977. He performs regularly with many area groups, including Pueblo Symphony (which he has served as timpanist and principal percussionist for), Dwight Shaw Septet & Big Band, Charles Westfallâs Swing Connection, Dick Cunicoâs Little Big Band, 21/3 (twenty-one over three), Pecos River Band, State Fair Rodeo Orchestra and has produced (& played on) a CD by Lynette Moffitt-Mondy. For the past seven years, Richard has been the primary drummer/percussionist for the Colorado Springs Fine Art Centerâs musical productions, having garnered specific mention and praise by the Colorado Springs Gazzetteâs theatre critic.

, Clark brings an artistic and contemplative dimension to his music. The strong, yet sublime modalities of Gregorian Chant can even be heard in his tunes. With his familyâs encouragement, he pursued his passion of music, performing in bands professionally and in schools since he was 13. Fresh out of high school, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and Dick Grove Music Workshops in Los Angeles. Later, spending honest and sometimes-hardbiting message of his songs are neslted in modal & pleasant melodies, sublime harmonic pastels, catchy rhythmic phrasing, punches and grooves. His musical reflections possess depth and substance interlaced with emotion and spirit; all the time weaving a tapestry of simple melodies you can hum along with, sublime harmonic pastels, catchy rhythmic phrasing, punches and grooves. Some of his primary musical and stylistic influences are; Piecing together his roles as a church organist, drum & piano teacher, drummer for big bands, musicals, fusion groups, club and dance gigs, as well as singing and playing for praise bands and senior citizen dances, Clark makes his living and supports his wife and two boys as a full time professional musician in the foothills of Central and Southern Colorado. In addition to his family & music, his other loves are mountains, trains, stars and the sea. Richard Clark (Drums, Percussion) is in his 3rd year at The Rep. While in L.A., he studied under Nick Ceroli (Tijuana Brass) and toured the area with the L.A. Country-Rock band Red Eye Express. He performs regularly with many area groups, including Pueblo Symphony (which he has served as timpanist and principal percussionist for), Dwight Shaw Septet & Big Band, Charles Westfallâs Swing Connection, Dick Cunicoâs Little Big Band, Pecos River Band, State Fair Rodeo Orchestra and has produced (& played on) a CD by Lynette Moffitt-Mondy. He also drummed for TheaterWorkâs Nymph Errant at UCCS. He is organist for the Church Of Christ, Scientist, and plays keyboards &/or drums for Anshey Hashem and First Presbyterian Church, all in Canon City. He loves composing and his tunes are played regularly in many groups, including Carlos Crull & Wasabi, Just In Time and the fusion band 21/3, all of whom he frequently plays in. He resides in Canon City with his wife and 2 sons and gives private instruction both there and in Colorado Springs.
