I was fed up with the gangsta-rap notion that says an MC has to gain street-cred as a crack dealer or gunshot victim, a la 50 Cent, in order to drop bombs. So I did an answer record from the `hood -- the suburban `hood. Middle-class rap; mobile home not required. No high-school dropout is going to out-rhyme me without a good fight. I''ll battle 50 Cent verse for verse. I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, in Swampscott, Mass. Rich kids commit suicide too; no one has it easy in this world. My style was influenced heavily by Eminem, but I''m unapologetic about it. As he said:
"I''ll bite your muthaf***in'' style just to make it fresher
I can''t take the pressure."
This record encourages middle-class people to rap honestly about their life and not to feel silenced just because they aren''t ghetto. Don''t be so easily defeated by thug rappers who never did their English homework anyway. If you want to play thug, just use an alter ego device, as I did in track two.
Track one has a keyboard synthesizer solo by Eric Goldberg in the fourth minute that is probably worth the purchase price alone and surpasses intrumental solos on any tracks by Eminem or 50 Cent. This CD comes with a lyrics booklet and photos of myself, Eric, and the engineer, Lenny Delorey. We hope you enjoy it. Sincerely,
