Based in Chicago, Donna decided to travel to Nashville to record this latest CD.
Violets and Blues was recorded at Creative Caffeine Studios on Berryhill Drive, with engineer Collin Peterson. Guest musicians include Andy Leftwich, Dave Lawbaugh, Jerry Kimbrough, Michael Johnson, Sam Levine, Matthew Burgess, Muriel Anderson, Wayne Dahl, Jeff Brock, Donna Frost, Larry Hall, John Catchings and Jack Jezzro.
Inspired by Steve Goodman, track number two was recorded partly in Chicago and is a song all about our great city, with Blues legend Jimmy Johnson playing electric lead guitar and Corky Siegel on harmonica. Track #5 (Bob The Dogwalker) is a fun track with four part barbershop quartet harmonies sung by Creative Caffeine studio owner Jeff Brock.
Donna has been performing around the Chicago area since 1988, starting out at the open stages at Earl''s Pub (formerly the legendary "Somebody Else''s Trouble''s" club). Years later, Donna would join Tom Dundee participating in his "Somebody Else''s Troubles Sundays" concert series at the same location.
She has been a regular performer at the Uncommon Ground Coffeehouse in Wrigleyville, and through the years has sung at many clubs, including Schuba''s, Heartland Cafe, Charlie''s Coffeehouse, Two Way Street coffeehouse in Downer''s Grove, and The Bluebird in Nashville for their songwriters night. Donna''s songs have been played on Rich Warren''s The Midnight Special, WDCB in Downer''s Grove, and WNUR in Evanston.
