Chris Legend was born Nigel L. Christian July 18, 1984 Charleston, WVA. At a young age he moved to South Carolina. He wrote his first rap verse in 7th grade shortly after the death of Tupac Shakur. He no longer
has the verse but remembers "it was garbage". Throughout grade school Legend continued to write verses on the long, lonely bus ride to school. In 9th
grade Legend spit his first freestyle in a "CIPHER" and set out on the path of a legend. While in high school Legend and his childhood friend Aaron "AR-15" Rivers recorded freestyles on a karaoke machine with instrumentals, his girlfriend at the time, had downloaded from Napster. Mainly writing rhymes in class and sleeping, higher education was of no concern to him as if he new what was to come. After graduating high school he gave college a shot at Clark Atlanta University and University of South Carolina at Sumter. Realizing school was not for him he work several
odd jobs and recorded his first demo in 2002. Also, the
Legend began using a Fruity Loops demo he downloaded
from the internet to make all his beats. In 2003
Legend got tired of being on the block and working a
dead end job, and decided to join the U.S. Navy. That
however did not stop him from pursuing his goals. In boot camp he wrote several rhymes that were allowed to be used for Cadence while marching. In 2004 at military shcool Legend recorded "My First Album" on a laptop in his barracks room. This is also where the original 441 was recorded. In 2005 he arrived at his first ship in Yokosuka, Japan. Legend quickly found refuge and starting recording with Ras Mason of the Cobral Law Network. Now with an album complete Legend has goals of starting his own record label "441 Entertainment" named after the highway he lived on and hustled at. His affiliates are DJ Tony Storm, Storm Camp, The Movement Camp and Cobra Law. He has yet to perform as he sticks mainly to producing Hip Hop and R&B for other artists. His influences are Tupac
Shakur, Notorious Big, Mary J. Blige, Twista, Eminem, T.I., Jay-Z, Timbaland, Swizz Beats, and Dr. Dre. His first album Path of a Legend is set to release December 2007.
